Francis Augusto (b. 1993) is an Angolan-born award-winning artist.

His early childhood as a refugee and background in sociology has shaped a distinct observational approach to image-making that bridges commercial authenticity with fine art sensibility. Drawing from his interest in social theory, Augusto's work operates at the intersection of social research, documentary, and art practice, creating visual narratives that study the self, interaction, and mundanity of everyday life.

Beginning his journey documenting for charitable organisations, Augusto developed an intimate storytelling perspective that would later define his commercial practice. This approach caught the attention of marketing agency Livity, where, as a creative-in-residence, he continued to refine his distinctive style. His work seeks to create an immediate connection with the audience, inviting viewers into carefully observed moments that feel both deeply personal and universally relevant. His ability to capture genuine human moments has led to collaborations with leading agencies, including Redwood BBDO, Impero, and McCann, whilst attracting global brands such as Apple, HP, Fuji, Nike, and Google.

Augusto's observational approach extends to his directorial work, where he brings the same thoughtful sensibility to moving image projects. "Caring about a project is always the difference," Francis notes, reflecting his philosophy of finding resonance with each narrative. His recent directorial work for Impact on Urban Health exemplifies this commitment to authenticity, creating films that capture genuine human experiences with both technical precision and emotional depth. This natural evolution into filmmaking has opened new pathways for storytelling, allowing him to capture dimensions of experience that still photography alone cannot convey.

Beyond commercial projects, Augusto's artistic practice has expanded through significant commissions and personal work. His most recent major body of work, Ghost Notes (2025), commissioned for FORMAT International Photography Festival's "Dancing Through Time" initiative, documented how punk culture endures in Derby through oral histories and collaborative portraits. His Arts Council England-funded series Songs of Love & Loss (2023) examines the intricate dynamics of romantic relationships through both photography and silent film, while "WATER" continues as an ongoing exploration of embodiment and identity. These works showcase his evolution as an artist working across multiple media—selecting the form that best serves each particular narrative while preserving cultural voices that might otherwise fade with time. Through this practice, Augusto creates art that serves both aesthetic and documentary functions, ensuring diverse lived experiences remain visible in our cultural record.

Augusto is available worldwide for commercial, editorial, and artistic commissions. He’s also interested in lecturing, workshop, mentoring & critiquing opportunities.
