Proudly Haringey — London Borough of Culture 2027
Haringey won London Borough of Culture 2027 as the rebel borough!
It’s a place with a long memory for protest, music, faith and football, and for the people who’ve made a home here from everywhere else. I was asked to photograph it.
From late summer into autumn 2026, I walked Green Lanes with Sel from the Collective, through Turkish and Kurdish cafés, coffee and fruit stalls. I photographed the traders at Seven Sisters Market and spent a Saturday that ran from Seed Archives to carnival at Wards Corner, and on to ManorFest at New River Studios. I stood outside Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as fans arrived for Jay-Z. I went into the studios of the people who make things here, from a printer on Green Lanes to a ceramicist at the Sarabande Foundation. I spent a day at Alexandra Palace, starting in the herb garden and ending with the youth orchestra rehearsing. It was an incredible experience to become more and more of a family in a borough that I once called home.
Wiedemann Lampe built the brand around five ideas: Celebrate, Neighbourhood, Adventure, Community and Rebel. The pictures are made to move between them. A single face gets room to breathe. The buildings people walk past every day get a second look. Groups who’ve known each other for years stand alongside people who’ve always done things their own way.
